Let our staff tell you in their own words what it's like to work here at Loch Lomond Golf Club.
HR advisor

Aga is the HR Manager at LLGC. She lives in Milton of Campsie with her husband and black Labrador, Polly.

My alarm goes off…
At 7am my husband brings me cereal in bed, every morning, then I get up, get ready, let the dog out and leave the house by 8am.

I’m responsible for…
The HR department at LLGC looks after all HR Management aspects such as employment law, employee relations, employee development, and we work very closely with all levels of management to help the operations deliver the company goals. Recruitment also forms a big part of our responsibilities where our head count goes from 140 permanent staff to around 250 including seasonal staff.

I got the job…
I did a 3-month placement at LLGC at the beginning of 2011, and fell in love with the place, and that time inspired me to go on and complete my studies in HR Management. I graduated with a BA Hons from The University of West of Scotland in 2012, got a job at VisionCall for 2 years, and the minute a vacancy came up at LLGC, I applied and thankfully got it, and will have been here 4 years come August.

My typical day…
No day is the same as the last – and one of the great things about the role at LLGC is the opportunity to get involved in things perhaps traditionally an HR department wouldn’t. So, in addition to the more traditional elements I also get to work on staff events, charitable and team build activities, training, uniforms and dealing with the sourcing of rental properties for staff.

We really act as a link between all the departments and know all the staff around the Club.

My most memorable moment…
A big wedding which was held at the Club last year, where I was able to help and form part of the kitchen team. We had staff and managers from various departments providing their support and worked through the night to ensure that the event was a success. Although I know I will never make as good a Kitchen Porter as some of our existing staff, I loved the fact that no job was too small for anyone and the team spirit that night was just fabulous.

The worst part of my job…
On the very rare occasions we need to do them – disciplinaries. We are a close-knit team – of names not numbers – so it’s never an easy one – but part of the job that sometimes has to be done.

The best part of my job…
I love payroll! Although challenging and a vast undertaking which requires a huge amount of accuracy and attention to detail, I find it very satisfying to know that my work results in people’s hard-earned wages appearing in their accounts on time every single month. Some staff thank me each month for sending their payslip which is very sweet!

After Work…
Currently this involves refurbishing our house, which is great fun. And I love taking Polly for long walks.

My Plan B:
Love Maths. Love numbers. But I didn’t like my Maths teacher – and on that basis didn’t study Higher Maths – and without that I couldn’t get into Uni to study Accountancy. Funny how something like that can completely redirect you in life – but no regrets about the change in direction.
