Nestled on the banks of Loch Lomond and only thirty minutes from Glasgow, Loch Lomond Golf Club offers its exclusive members a tranquil retreat for relaxation whilst experiencing our award winning hospitality and cuisine within a breathtaking backdrop of a world class golf course.
This Exclusive Private Members Golf Club is offering a 22-month Apprenticship Programme that combines on-the-job- learning, work based assessments leading to a NVQ qualification and personal development. At Loch Lomond Golf Club we see this as not just training but as a custom-made programme, tweaked and shaped in order to support a young enthusiastic person with who has a passion for food. We are looking for a young person aged between 16 and 21years-old and not in full-time education to train to become a professional chef working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. It's a structured programme that requires hard graft and dedication to the end goal, but it is a transformational journey.
The 2012 Programme runs from March 2012 to December 2013. Applicants can apply online from December 2011. The successful candidate will start in March 2012 when the Golf season begins.
The apprentice, while at Loch Lomond Golf Club, is trained across a number of sections of the kitchen:
- Bakery·
- Breakfast
- Fish and mains
- Food preparation
- Meats and grill
- Pasta
- Pastry and desserts
- Starters and salads
Over the course of the year, as they develop in confidence and skill, the apprentice moves between the Spikes Bar kitchen where the food is more of a brassiere style to the Fine Dining kitchen and restaurant in Rossdhu House. In both kitchens the apprentice is under the watchful eyes of the Head and Sous chefs. Their job is to ensure that the training fits the personal requirements and offers the skills needed for the job and satisfies national standards.
The Apprentice has the opportunity to learn on the job, building up knowledge and skills, gain qualifications and earning money all at the same time. They will be working towards a work-based qualification such as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) and other nationally recognised qualifications.
